Growing the Primary Health Care Nurse Workforce
This presentation will describe the available international evidence on education models and career pathways for nurses working in primary care and general practice with a view to enhancing recruitment and retention of nurses in Australian general practice through the development of an Australian framework. Countries, including New Zealand, Scotland, England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland, are developing education and career frameworks to support the recruitment and retention of general practice nurses. These developments are recognition of the need to attract more nurses into general practice and primary care settings often against a background of predicted future shortages of nurses.
