SMS & Calendar Reminders to Promote Infant Immunisation Timeliness
National Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) data show 25% of MMR doses due at 12 months of age are late, as are 32% of MMRV due at 18 months of age. To investigate whether SMS messages or personalised calendar reminders can improve on-time (within 30 days of due date) compliance with immunisations we conducted a randomised controlled trial using a purpose-built iPad application (app). Primary health care nurses used the app in general practices, council clinics, and Aboriginal Medical Services in South Australia and New South Wales, few of which had existing reminder systems.
